New Blood at Calderdale Way Relay

Calderdale Way Relay

Calderdale was amassed with athletes this Sunday as Halifax Harriers hosted Britain’s largest, club-run, off-road event. The 31st annual Calderdale Way Relay saw 88 teams of runners completing the 51mile scenic circuit, high on the valley sides. Teams of 12 runners share the duties as each of the 6 legs are run in pairs throughout the day.
Todmorden Harriers had 3 teams competing in the event and initial worries over the absence of ‘old hands’ were soon laid to rest as the recent influx of fresh blooded newcomers stepped in to fill their shoes.
It was Calder Valley Fell Runners first team who took the honours, leading the way from the start with Barlick Fell Runners in hot pursuit, finishing 2nd overall and Holmfirth Harriers in 3rd.
Todmorden’s men’s A team finished a very credible 9th place with a total cumulative time of 6:41:59. Whilst the B team ran home in 7:34:01
In the battle for ladies team title it was Holmfirth Harriers who came out on top with Calder Valley Ladies in 2nd. Solid running from Todmorden’s ladies team won them an excellent 5th amongst a very competitive field.
