Auld Lang Syne Fell Race

Todmorden Harriers see out the ‘auld’ year in style
If you found yourself listening to the strains of the bagpipes whilst standing in the mud at the bottom of the disused quarry on Penistone Hill near Haworth on New Year’s Eve then you must have been joining the four hundred or so runners toeing the line for the Woodentops Auld Lang Syne race last Thursday. The rain of recent weeks meant that mud played a fair part on parts of the course and slightly swelled the stream that is crossed at the start and end of the course. The race was won by Horwich RMI Harrier Chris Farrell who finished 16 seconds ahead of Tom Adams. Todmorden Harriers were represented by ten of their runners. Graeme Brown was first home for the Harriers, finishing in 26th position in a time of 49.01, this despite a slip and minor injury on the way out of the second crossing of the stream. Craig Stansfield and Martin Roberts were the second and third placed Toddies, finishing in 66th (52.49) and 168th (60.36) respectively. First lady for the Harriers was Rebecca Patrick. She crossed the line in 179th position in a time of 61.16. Kate Mansell and Jane Leonard were the second and third place ladies for the Toddies, finishing in 202nd (63.06) and 315th (71.29) respectively.
