Burnsall Sports Day also incorporates a 10 Mile Road Race, a more recent innovation than the classic Fell Race, tracing an undulating course through Hartlington, Hebden, Grassington, Linton and Thorpe, starting and finishing on the Burnsall Village Green. The race attracted 120 runners and was won by Skipton AC runner Julian Hood in 57.33 with Sarah Cumber of Halifax Harriers the first lady in 6th place overall in 1.03.54. The road race formed part of the Club Champs and first Toddie home was the ‘human metronome’ himself, Robin Tuddenham in 7th place overall in 1.04.07. Chris Goddard and Darren Tweed were close behind in 10th and 12th place in 1.04.50 and 1.05.37 respectively, with Richard Butterwick coming in at 20th place in 1.06.23. Sarah Glyde placed an impressive 5th overall in the ladies race in 1.16.02. The remaining Tod Harrier competitors were Keith Alger (24th in 1.07.59) Claire Anderson (22nd lady in 1.24.18) and Peter Ehrhardt (2nd V70) in 1.43.57.
