Haworth Hobble, 12 March

Just short of 400 runners set off on the ever popular Haworth Hobble Ultra Marathon on Saturday morning, a 31.7 mile outing with 1340m of climbing. The weather was a bit grim with some rain and a strong breeze to start but soon cleared out into a perfect sunny but cool day, ideal conditions for a long run. The route heads out of Haworth over Top Withens and down into Lancashire round the Cant Clough reservoirs just short of Hurstwood before heading back along the edge above Todmorden. It’s then down into the valley bottom before a climb back up Stoodley Pike, followed by climbs up to Heptonstall and over Oxenhope moor to finish back in Haworth. The race also has some of the best checkpoint nourishment on offer, hot dogs, chip butties, donuts and even some whisky for those needing a tot to get them to the finish line.
There was a great turn out of 19 Todmorden Harriers and a mightily impressive win for Doni Clarke in 4:09. First lady back was Katy Archer of Ilkley in 5:11
