New Record for Stoodley Pike Fell Race

Another sunny day was booked by Tod Harriers for this mad dash up to Stoodley Pike and back. The ground was slightly damp underfoot following recent rain, but not enough to make things too slippery giving a bit more grip on the way down from the Pike.

There was a good turnout of 22 Toddies running out of a total of 146 starters, numbers were bumped up by the race being included in Manchester YMCA Harriers, Burnden Road Runners, and Calder Valley Championships. It was great to see people travelling from around the area and further afield to take part.

The race record was broken by Grant Cunliffe of Rossendale Harriers, with a new record time of 18.06 breaking his previous record of 18:25, and possibly the women’s record was taken too by Martha Tibbot of Saddleworth Runners in 21:40.

First Toddies back were Doni Clarke for the men in 4th with 19:41 and 1st M40 and Rosie Dowson for the women in 44th with 26:00 and the 1st FU18.

Men’s and women’s team prizes were won by Calder Valley, but Tod came 2nd in both with Dom Leckie, Ashley Wright and Paul Waterhouse for the men’s, and Rosie Dowson, Rebecca Senior, and Jackie Scarf for the women, a good result considering the numbers from other clubs, but we are on home turf.
