Red Rose Cross Country Race 4, Marl Pits
Report by Jo Daniels
The final round of the Red Rose Cross Country Leagues series was held at Marl Pits at the weekend. The mud was considerable, with various items of footwear being recovered by the Race Organisers after the event. However, the energy sapping terrain proved no match for the hardy runners of Todmorden Harriers. The women raced home to take first place in the Vets age group and second place in the open team competition. The first counter was Rebecca Patrick (5th in 23.05), who also took second in the LV45 category. Second counter was Pauline May (10th in 24.02), claiming 2nd the LV35 age group. Third home was Mel Blackhurst (pictured, 15th in 24.52). Mel took second in the LV50 category. The men had a successful outing, with the first six counters (Andrew Worster, Graeme Brown, Nick Barber, Richard Butterwick, Tristan Langois, Robin Tuddenham) for Todmorden taking fourth in the Open Senior team competition. Graeme, Nick, Richard and Tristan also secured fourth position in the male vets category. Graeme Brown and Nick Barber placed second and third in the V40 competition completing the course in 33.22 and 34.14 respectively.
