Wholan Nook Trail Race, 16th May

The Wholan Nook 5 Mile Trail Race brought Todmorden Harriers out in force on Wednesday as one of the qualifying races for the club’s Grand Prix. The race, which is also part of the Pendle & Burnley Grand Prix, and raises funds for MacMillan Cancer Care, took runners on a tour of the trails around Clowbridge and Crown Point, starting and finishing at Rossendale Sailing Club. There were several strong performances from the Todmorden Athletes with a number of prize winners in different age categories. Pauline May (pictured) was first F35 in 36.13 and first female overall. Rebecca Patrick finished first in the F45 age group in 38.03 and 5th female overall. Kerry Edwards was 2nd F40 in 39.59 and Helen Wilson took 2nd F50 in 46.03. There were also strong performances from the men: Matt Flanagan took 17th place overall, claiming 2nd M45 into the bargain, in 33.33. There was a tussle for placings with less than a minute separating the next three Todmorden men: Darren Tweed 21st in 34.07, Darren Shackleton 22nd in 34:09 and Duncan Cannon 24th 34.27. Richard Blakeley also took 1st in the MV75 category, finishing in 45.02. The overall race winner was Barlick’s Tom Corrigan in 29.37.
