Annie Wins Heptonstall

Heptonstall Festival Fell Race, 7 July
Report by Rebecca Patrick

Last Saturday ten Todmorden Harriers took part in the local Heptonstall Festival Fell Race. The race starts in Heptonstall and plunges down to the Craggs and then up to High Brown Knowl and back again, a total of 5.9 miles involving 1627 feet of climb.
Conditions were hot and the water stops provided by local householders were very welcome. The heat did not stop Joe Baxter (Pudsey & Bramley) who set a new course record of 46:39. First Toddie back and first woman was the indomitable Annie Roberts in 57:39 (13th overall) who, with Rebecca Patrick (first V40) and Rosa Blackwell, running her first race for Todmorden, took the ladies’ team prize. Howard Darwin was first Tod male back in 1:02:57, followed by strong runs from Tristan Langlois (1:04:23) and Stuart Wolstenholme (1:06:12).
